FAQ

  • How old does my child need to be to play at RPLL?
RPLL is split into three different age groups based primarily on School Years – Bantams (Years 3 and 4), Juniors (Years 5 and 6), and Seniors (Years 7 and 8).
  • How does my child join a team?

Any child wishing to play at RPLL needs to be registered online. You will find a link to the current seasons registration form at the top of this page in the main navigation options. If the link is not there it’s probably because we have stopped taking any new registrations for the current season.

  • Can I or my child choose what team they play in?

No, players are allocated centrally following the Trials that take place in May. This is so all teams are balanced as much as possible in terms of age, numbers, ability, confidence and the positions that children play (it’s no good one team having three goalkeepers with others having none). If a manager or assistant has a son or daughter playing they will automatically join their parent’s team unless otherwise agreed. If siblings fall within the same age group they will also be allocated to the same team.

  • When and where do the matches take place?

All RPLL matches take place on Saturday mornings between September and April at the Sir Joseph Hood Memorial Playing Fields in Motspur Park (see location on Google Maps) so there is no travelling to different venues every week.

  • What times do matches start?

Matches in each of the three age groups have set kick-off times every week:

    Bantams – 9.30, 10.15 and 11.00

    Juniors – 9.30, 10.30 and 11.30

    Seniors – 9.30, 10.30 and 11.00

The only exception to these times are in the Cup competitions.

  • How much does it cost?
There is a £30 annual registration fee (£20 for each additional sibling) payable at the time of registering. This fee covers kit, pitch hire, insurance, etc.
  • What do they wear?

Every child in RPLL is allocated a full kit at the start of the season and the expectation is that this is worn for every match. Shirts and shorts must be returned at the end of the season.

Shin pads must be worn for both safety and insurance reasons. If your child turns up without shin pads and you are unable to borrow some they will not be permitted to play. Appropriate footwear should be worn (please avoid metal-studded boots). We have several pairs of second-hand football boots and trainers available to borrow – you can find them in the cafe.

Children who wear glasses should have the required lenses to play sport, i.e. plastic lenses, sport-specific glasses, etc.

  • What happens if games are called off?

In the unfortunate event of bad weather making the pitches unplayable all managers will be notified that games are cancelled. They in turn will pass on the message to all the parents in their team. In most cases a decision is made on Friday afternoon if there has been heavy rainfall during and/or in the later part of the week.
